The Castelfeder Winery was founded in 1970 by Alfons Giovanett, an oenologist who attended the renowned wine school in San Michele all’Adige. Originally situated in the center of Egna, a village in southern Alto Adige, the small private winery primarily processed red grapes of the Lagrein, Pinot Noir and Schiava varieties.

In the 1989, the founder’s son, Günther Giovanett, took over the management of the winery and relocated the operations even further south to the village of Cortina. Through his purchase of these new vineyards, collaboration with other winegrowers in the area and focused cultivation of choice varietals, Günther was opened to an array of new possibilities in the production of great wines – a job he performs with enthusiasm.

The efforts of Günther and his wife Alessandra are reinforced by their two children, Ivan and Ines, who now also are integral members of the winery team. Castelfeder is a true family business with the goal of producing outstanding wines in a very special region of Italy.
